Big boost for small businesses

7 December 2017

Chester Indoor Market welcomed 5,285 visitors on Small Business Saturday (2 December) their busiest day of the week. Springboard footfall counters recently installed reveal very encouraging visitor numbers recording over 122,000 visitors during October and November.

Springboard who also monitor city centre footfall has reported an increased footfall in Chester of 7.2 percent compared to last year that’s a sharp contrast to the reported decline of 0.1 per cent across the UK.

Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member, Economic Development and Infrastructure said: “As part of our drive to attract more customers to the market, we have introduced new signage, a new website, online advertising and a free Shopper Hopper link with the Bus Interchange. Drivers can also claim £1 off their parking in the Market Car Park.

“The main reason for visiting the market of course is the traders who are there and the products and services that they provide. A number of new traders will be arriving in the New Year including artisan breads and cakes and homeware. Four more traders are also keen to join with additional food offerings and retail goods.” Santa arrived in his grotto for a first visit on the 2 December. Santa and Mrs Claus will be making two further visits to the Market on 9 and 16 December. The Freedom church will also be offering a free gift wrapping service 9 and 16 December from 1pm - 3pm.

The Market traders will be supporting Save the Children Christmas Jumper day on 15 December encouraging customers to join in the fun with a Christmas jumper/hat and be entered into a free raffle draw to win a Christmas Hamper. Traders will also be collecting for the Foodbank on 15 December.
