The winners of the Cheshire Schools Book Awards 2019 have been announced at a ceremony organised by Cheshire Education Library Service.
An audience of over 160 secondary pupils, teachers and librarians from 14 secondary schools across Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East and Warrington packed Winsford Academy for the announcement ceremony.
The shortlist and winners were voted for by secondary school pupils and school librarians supporting the Cheshire Schools Book Awards through their subscription to Cheshire Education Library Service.
This year, the winners of the two categories were:
Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “The Cheshire Schools Book awards are a very entertaining and inspirational initiative. A big thank you to everyone involved.
- Years 7 and 8 category Winner - Tom Palmer for Armistice Runner and Joint Runners Up - Lisa Thompson- The Light Jar and Stewart Foster - All the Things that could go Wrong.
- Year 9 and above category Winner was Tom and Giovanna Fletcher - Eve of Man and Runner Up - Matt Killeen - Orphan, Monster, Spy.
“The pupils were very enthusiastic and asked some really challenging questions as they learnt more about the authors and their writing processes. The authors were brilliant, open and candid, inspiring young people to read and talk about books and writing.”
