Comedians to give fake academic talks at Grosvenor Museum
29 January 2020Back for a fourth time by popular demand, comedians will once again become curators and give illuminating talks on some of the objects in the Grosvenor Museum. The catch? It’s all a lie – they’ve never seen any of the slides before, have no idea what most of the objects are and will be making it all up on the spot, with hilarious results.
‘Carry on Curating’ on Wednesday 19 February will once again be hosted by Chester comedian Danny McLoughlin, whose easy charm and instinctive sense of humour is the perfect backdrop for the guest comics who join him. A regular performer at the UK’s biggest comedy clubs, Danny has supported numerous acts on tour including Sarah Millican and Sean Lock.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cabinet Member for Wellbeing said: “Past lectures have been brilliantly inventive and delightfully surreal, testing the comics’ powers of improvisation to the limit. The evening is the perfect mix of culture and comedy – a sort of Whose Time Team is it Anyway? mash-up – and cheerfully interprets significant historical objects with absolutely no regard to what they actually are.”
The event runs from 7.30pm to 9pm on Wednesday 19 February in the Lecture Theatre at the Grosvenor Museum. Contains adult language. Tickets are £10, which includes a glass of wine or a soft drink. Tickets are available from the Ticketsource website or on the door on the night. Admission to the Grosvenor Museum is free.
