There’s a host of activities and fun available at your local libraries this Summer. Just visit your local branch from Saturday, 15 July onwards in order to take part.  It’s all free, you don’t even need identification to get a library card.

So what is the Animal Agents?

The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at all children, but especially those in primary school, rewarding them for reading books.
  • A free foldout presentation pack upon joining.
  • Two collector’s cards and a fold-up game after reading two books (any two books: although we encourage them to be library books and not too easy or quick for your child to read: it is a challenge after all).
  • Two more collector’s cards and a doorhanger after reading two more books.
  • The two final collector’s cards and a keyring after reading the final six books.
  • Each “completer” will then be invited to a special award’s ceremony where they will receive their very own (gasp!) certificate and medal.
Everything is nicely presented and illustrated by Tony Ross, aimed at keeping  your child reading over the vital Summer months. Please note: Our library events are very popular and so many of those listed below are now booked up. However, there are cancellations and so do contact the individual library if you’re really keen on going to an event. And, of course, libraries are great places to go to over the Summer with your children no matter what.

Professor Mace

Professor Mace's Strange and Mysterious Beasts

Meet Professor Mace, hear tales of adventures and encounters with strange and mysterious beasts. Throughout  the  nineteenth  century  brave  men  and  women  of  Britain  ventured  forth  into  the  wide  world, and  for  whatever  reason, be  it  adventure  and  wealth, missionary  zeal  or  scientific  curiosity  sought  out  its  hidden  secrets. Many  did  not  return  but  those  that  did  often  brought  with them  wondrous  exotic  items  that  filled  the  museums, galleries  and  drawing  rooms  of  Victorian  Britain. Some  toured  the  country  to  give  talks  on  their  journeys, whilst  others  joined  the  travelling  fayres  and  carnivals  to  exhibit  their  wonders. For  some  however,  it  was  enough  to sit  in  their  drawing  room, writing  of  their  adventures  or  gazing  at  their  own  mysterious  Cabinet  of  Curiosities. This is a free event from Cheshire West Museums. Drop-in, no need to book.
