Northwich Woodlands

The Northwich Woodlands is an area of vibrant and accessible parkland with more than 350 hectares to explore and discover. Amongst the varied and delightful scenery there are miles of surfaced paths to enjoy at your own pace.

Cyclists may choose from a wide range of safe, traffic-free routes that are suitable for all the family. The more adventurous can link up with national cycle routes to travel further afield.

Horse riders will find a rare chance for riding in the midst of beautiful surroundings.

Visitors can enjoy an insight into how the present landscape is a window to the past; witness the historic landscapes of Marbury Country Park to the industrial past of the Flashes and Anderton Nature Park.

Since Roman times, the area has been mined for salt. Many mines collapsed leaving large craters and wet 'flashes', which were then filled with waste materials from the local chemical industry. The unusual conditions have created a unique environment, providing a home for many plants and animals that are scarce in Cheshire and far removed from their usual surroundings.

All goes to make the Northwich Woodlands a fascinating and exciting place to explore.
