Hello resident,
                       please see the below information supplied by Halton Trading Standards.
Council Tax Refund - Telephone Scam
Halton Trading Standards wishes to warn consumers of a Council Tax scam currently circulating. Residents within the Borough have been contacted by a man purporting to be from Halton Borough Council’s - Council Tax Department advising residents that they were in credit and asking for their bank details in order to process a refund. The caller also gives the resident the option of receiving the refund by cheque.
This is a scam, Halton Borough Council - Council Tax Department do not telephone residents who are in credit asking for their bank details and they also no longer issue refunds by cheque.
If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standrds specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
