Crime Updates-August

Cheshire Police responded to 335 incidents in the Old Town throughout August. The incidents varied in terms of seriousness and included a number of individuals acting suspiciously, shoplifting, assaults, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

Incidents of note:

Anti-Social Behaviour

A resident of an address where many local nominals would gravitate to was evicted from his property this month by Riverside Housing and Cheshire Police following numerous complaints of anti-social behaviour, drug taking and noise issues. The occupant on Peel Street in the Old Town was also evicted for failing to keep up with monthly rent payments.

Caring for the Vulnerable

There have been a number of incidents recently where individuals have targeting vulnerable people, specifically the elderly. Individuals have been knocking on doors asking if any building work can be done. The individuals have charging excessive amounts for basic gardening work and have been encouraging victims to pass over their bank card and PIN numbers in order to withdraw as much money as possible. Please report any incident of this nature to Police on 101, if possible with descriptions of those involved. May we ask that you also keep an eye on elderly relatives and neighbours to help ensure they do not fall victim to this offence.

Suspicious Activity

There were a number of reports regarding suspicious persons around The Decks and also near the Runcorn/Widnes bridge. Although a number of patrols were sent to the area, nothing further was found. However we always remind people to remain vigilant and report anything that appears suspicious through the non-emergency number 101 and emergencies through 999.

Roads Policing

A male was arrested for multiple driving offences including making off without payment from a petrol station on numerous occasions and using false license plates
