Chester Northgate ground investigations planned

23 October 2017

Ground investigation works for Chester Northgate take place at a number of locations around the city centre from the 5 November to the end of November.

The works will be in Town Hall Square, Northgate St, the former bus station, Princes St, Trinity St, the Guild Hall, St Martins Way and Crook St. It is anticipated that work at each location should take no more than three to four days and positions have been carefully considered to minimise the impact on the public and surrounding areas.  The work areas will have appropriate traffic management in place to protect members of the public and the workforce.

The investigation work involves drilling holes to establish the depths of bedrock to confirm foundation designs.

Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure said: “We apologise for any disruption caused during this process, the locations have been chosen to create the minimum impact and avoid obstructions for drivers, pedestrians and businesses." The works are required as part of the Chester Northgate development which will transform the northwest corner of the city with a new market hall, new shopping, leisure and residential developments including; a multi-screen cinema, cafes, bars and restaurants, new hotel, parking for 800 cars, and over 1000 new jobs.
