Funding Approved for Community Centre in Tarvin
4 December 2015The Community Centre Committee is delighted to announce that their grant application to WREN has been successful.
The £50,000 grant has been awarded by WREN’S FCC Community Action Fund and will be used to bring the rear of the building into community use by providing a lounge area, servery, better access, disabled toilet and improved storage.
Alan Wilkinson, Chair of the Community Centre Committee believes that the improvements will allow the Centre to meet the increasing demand for social and recreational space in the growing village.
He said “This is the culmination of seven years very hard work. The grant enables us to fulfil a dream to make the Community Centre the vibrant heart of the village and to provide residents with a variety of spaces to use for many different activities. We hope that by this time next year the new room will be as busy as the others and we no longer have to turn away requests for rooms for hire.”
WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FFC Environment through the Landfill Communities Trust. To the Wren Grant will be added grants already approved from the Garfield Weston Foundation, £7,500 and the Williams Family Foundation, £5000. Thanks also to Mr. J. Wright of Hockenhull Hall and the Tarvin Parish Council for their contributions as ‘Third Party Funders’ that helped secure the grant. The Community Centre Committee has already set aside £25,000 from its own fighting fund.

Alan Wilkinson hopes that work can start in the New Year and be completed by the summer of 2016.
