4 January 2016

The winners have been announced of a competition to find the company whose staff clocked up the most cycling miles to and from work.

The itravelsmart contest organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council threw down the challenge between July and September last year and the winners were employees of Toyota, based in Flintshire.

Itravelsmart presented Meghann Wareing from the company with their prize of two pool bikes for their staff including helmets, panniers and racks, pumps, bike reflective jackets and bike lights.

Accepting the bikes Meghann was joined by Gary Smith and Phil Lancelotte who took part in the challenge.

Meghann said: “We are keen to support our staff to travel to work sustainably and have an excellent cycle route between Neston and Deeside finishing right at our front gate.

“Working with the itravelsmart team to promote this challenge to staff, supports our goals to encourage a healthy workforce. The pool bikes and equipment will be popular with our staff.”

Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure said:  “I would like to congratulate Toyota after their cyclists logged 9,599 miles during the challenge.

“The itravelsmart team have been working with businesses on Deeside Industrial Estate due to the high number of staff commuting from Cheshire West and Chester.”  The Love to Ride challenge area managed by itravelsmart logged a total of 75,432 miles cycled representing 249,574 calories burnt.
itravelsmart is funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, a Department for Transport Programme, aimed at achieving economic growth, job expansion and carbon reduction through generating sustainable journeys to work.
