Come and see plans that bring Chester Northgate to life

4 July 2019

Phase 1 of the Chester Northgate project is being brought to life as Cheshire West and Chester Council reopens shop unit 7, in the Forum Shopping Centre, as an information point.

Back by popular demand visitors will be able to view the latest designs for Phase 1 including a new indoor market, six-screen Picturehouse cinema, public square and car park. There’ll also be the opportunity to talk to a member of the team about the development.

The shop will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 July, 11am to 3pm.

This is in response to the success of the shop opening for the formal consultation period in the spring, which attracted over 1000 visitors. Information on comments received as part of the consultation and changes made as a result of the feedback can be seen on the Chester Northgate website.

The detailed designs for this initial phase have now been submitted for planning approval. Outline planning permission has already been secured for the Phase 1 development site and planning approval is now being sought for the inclusion of a multi-storey car park which replaces previous plans to move the hotel to this site.

Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Growth said: “The energy behind Chester Northgate is really starting to build. People have been looking forward to the regeneration of this area of our city for some time, so the recent progress is welcomed.

“The submission of the planning application was an important step and I’m really grateful to the residents and local businesses who have given their time to help shape the look and feel of the development.

“The reaction to the quality of the designs has been positive and I think the images help bring the scheme alive. That’s why I am glad we are re-opening the shop in the forum, so residents can pop in and learn about the history of this part of our city, see the full designs, and ask questions to the team who are helping deliver it.

“Don’t forget to pop in the market on your way home.”

The planning documents are available to view on the planning portal with the opportunity to comment through the formal planning process.

The submission is likely to be considered by the planning committee in September 2019. If planning approval is granted, works to support the development will start on site during October.
