Deadline looms for EU Referendum absent vote

27 May 2016

Residents planning a June break are urged to apply for a postal or proxy vote before 8 June to make sure they can have a say in the EU referendum.

Postal packs will be delivered from 15 June so anyone that will be away from home before that date should consider applying for a proxy vote.
The referendum takes place on 23 June and anyone away from home on that date will not be able to vote unless they have applied to do so by post or proxy.

Steve Robinson, Electoral Registration Officer at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The EU referendum has been described as one of the most important decisions in our times.

“If you know you are going to be away on polling day, 23 June, then I would urge you to apply for a postal or proxy vote before 8 June or you will miss your chance to vote.”

Anyone registered to vote can apply for a postal or proxy vote.

For more information about the referendum or voting by post or proxy and to download the postal voting form visit: cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk, click on ‘Your Council’ then ‘Voting and Elections’.

If you are already registered to vote you do not need to do so again in order to vote in the EU referendum.
