Lord Mayor sends condolences to the people of Reading
22 June 2020The Lord Mayor of Chester has sent condolences on behalf of the city to the people of Reading following the attack on Saturday evening.
Cllr Mark Williams has written to the Mayor of Reading to express sympathy and solidarity after the incident at Forbury Gardens in which three people died and at least three more were injured.
He said: “Our thoughts go out to your town and to all those affected by this cruel and senseless attack. To undertake such an act on innocent people whilst they were enjoying an evening with friends and family in your town park, amid the Coronavirus lockdown measures we all currently find ourselves in, is appalling.
“We as a City, stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends and colleagues in Reading and other towns and cities affected by terrorism. We our united in your grief.
“My admiration goes out to all those selfless individuals in your town, who showed such bravery and came to the aid of those injured or dying. My thanks are also expressed to the emergency services for their help and support and special thanks goes out to the police officer who intercepted the attacker.
“Our thoughts are with the families and friends who lost a loved one in the attack and to those who were injured.”
