Queen's 90th birthday a huge success

16 June 2016

Hundreds of people turned out to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th Birthday Celebration in Chester City Centre on Sunday, 12 June.  Crowds gathered right from the start to watch an elaborate ceremony, performed by Chester’s own Roman soilders, who opened gates placed especially for the occasion at Eastgate Clock.
Following this unique event opening the City of Chester Brass Band and Giant Queen led a procession where local community groups, school children and members of the public made their way to Town Hall square to enjoy their own picnic and listen to performances by the City of Chester Male Voice Choir, The Chester Ladies Choir, Chester Rock Choir, Frodsham Manor House Primary School and their special young visitors from Ghana, A Handbag of Harmonies and Dee Sign Choir.
Theatre in the Quarter’s, Matt Baker then led crowds back to Eastgate Street for a fabulous and fitting event finale where adult and school choirs took party goers on a musical journey through the Queen’s reign performed by 150 children from across the borough. Matt then followed with one of his famous singalongs which created a magical atmosphere with the crowd participation.
This Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, CH1ChesterBID and Theatre in the Quarter was supported by the University of Chester and community groups from across the borough bringing the city alive and showcasing our great community spirit.  This event was part of CH1ChesterBID's summer-long Chester Fiesta. A three-month campaign celebrating Summer in the city with fantastic city wide events and activities.  For more information:
