Pupils given a taste of their future career
25 July 2019Primary school pupils in Winsford have been given a taste of their potential future at a special career event in Warrington & Vale Royal College.
All ten primary schools in the town took a total of 400 pupils to an interesting and informative career options event which was held in the college over two days in June.
It was run as part of the Council’s Raising Aspirations Project, which aims to instil career ambitions in youngsters in the borough by introducing them to educational opportunities, real life workplaces and professionals.
The children took part in three one hour taster workshops. They consisted of vocational learning sessions where they found out more about careers in a range of industries, such as: hairdressing, tourism, business, childcare, computing, engineering and photography.
Cllr Nicole Meardon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “This event was successful in introducing our children to the real world of work. By finding out about the different careers which could be open to them in the future, we hope that they will become inspired and ambitious in the future. Raising their personal ambitions is sure to focus their minds during their schooling and further education.
Stephanie Hutchinson, School Engagement Manager at Warrington & Vale Royal College, said: “This is the second time Warrington & Vale Royal College has hosted the event, this year at our Winsford campus. It’s a fantastic, action-packed day and provides a unique opportunity for the college to support its local community.
“As a college, we offer a wide range of vocational courses and apprenticeships, and it’s a chance for Winsford’s primary school children to experience the rewarding career pathways that are available to them, right on their doorstep.”
The Raising Aspirations Project is part of the Council’s Winsford Whole Place Programme. It will become even more beneficial to young people if other industries or colleges are willing to offer their support by introducing the children to the world of further education and employment.
