Northwich bus service rescued
29 April 2016Following the announcement by a local bus company to stop running the number 45 bus service between Northwich and Warrington, discussions with Cheshire West and Chester Council have provided a solution.
The withdrawal of the service was met with concern by residents of villages in the Northwich area. The service, which was operated commercially, would have left the villages of Lostock Gralam and Wincham without a service to Warrington. Higher Marston and Great Budworth would have no buses at all.
Network Warrington Bus Company who currently operates commercial services via Barnton has agreed to divert some journeys through these villages after discussions with the Council.
While not as frequent as the previous GHA Coaches service, Network Warrington will provide five journeys a day in each direction on the route.
Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure said: “Not everyone has access to a car, and public transport is a lifeline for many residents in rural areas who need to get to work, shops, medical appointments, school and college. I am delighted that Network Warrington has agreed to provide a service on this route”.
