Boxy and Sticky at the Lion Salt Works

17 June 2016

The Lion Salt Works Museum, near Northwich is to host family show Boxy and Sticky by Theatr Iolo on Sunday 26 June at 2.30pm.

Boxy & Sticky, created and directed by Sarah Argent, have delighted young audiences (and their grown-ups) across the UK and now they are coming to the Lion Salt Works.

This new play creates a glorious world of play with the simplest of objects, a box and a stick.

Said Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing: “I’m thrilled that this charming and funny theatre piece for children is coming to the Lion Salt Works.  It sounds like the audience will be mesmerised by these two mischievous characters.”  Boxy & Sticky invites the audience into the playful world of two characters revelling in the games familiar to all children. Their encounters are full of mischief, dressing up, hide and seek and funny wordplay. Gradually, through their playacting and mimicry, they learn that co-operation can make playing together even more fun.

The specially composed music (by Jak Poore), the live singing, and Mediterranean tinged warmth of the staging, will draw audiences young and old into the fabulous world of Boxy and Sticky. The audience can also join in with a play session after the performance based on the play to let those young imaginations let rip.

The Lion Salt Works Museum, recently won its sixth award since opening in 2015 – the UK’s top conservation award from the Civic Trust. The restoration of the Museum was possible thanks to a £5m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and funding from Cheshire West and Chester Council.  The £10m restored museum has proved very popular with visitors, who enjoy the fun, interactive exhibitions, play area and café.
