Lostock Gralam CE Primary School Eco Group help out at Townshend Road play area
16 December 2015Green-fingered primary school children have lent a helping hand to brighten up Townshend Road play area in Lostock Gralam.
The children from Lostock Gralam CE Primary School planted bulbs which will grow into colourful spring flowers and ensure that the play area is looking its best.
Following the opening of the refurbished play area last summer, staff and children from the school Eco Group together with representatives from the Parish Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council Officers have been helping with the planting of trees, hedging and spring bulbs to complete the final landscaping at the site.
The recent landscaping work will provide seasonal sensory interest and colour.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing, said: "It is great that the school children have been involved with the landscaping and the planting of bulbs and trees at the site.
"I am sure that this can be the start of a process where the community can take an active part in supporting the Councils to look after a valuable community asset.
"This especially would be good for the school Eco Group, because it would provide an educational resource about how a project of this type can help to enhance the local environment."
