Vivo's Green team helps the community grow

18 July 2019

Council company Vivo Care Choices launched its Green team at Grosvenor Park in Chester on Thursday 18 July, helping to keep the borough clean and tidy.

Vivo, which delivers a range of flexible and responsive support for people with learning disabilities, autism and older people, has created the Green team to provide volunteer services five-days-a-week.

Thirty to 40 volunteers from Vivo’s learning disability services make up the Green team as they have a passion for gardening and outdoor projects, volunteering one to five days per week depending on their interest.

The team has taken part in projects across the borough, such as bedding flowers at Volunteer Avenue in Grosvenor Park and improvement works at St Mary’s in Handbridge. Volunteers have developed strong links and friendships with the wider community, and the scheme aims to turn volunteering opportunities into supported employment opportunities once it expands.

Alistair Jeffs, Vivo Managing Director, said: “We have a fantastic team of volunteers who are carrying out some brilliant work across the borough.

“It’s great to see the volunteers having the opportunity to get involved with something they love.

“Although the team is currently working on a number of different projects, we’re always looking out for exciting opportunities so we’d encourage anybody to get in touch with new projects we could work on.”

A number of councillors attended the launch to hear about the Green team and see first-hand some of the projects it has been working on.

Councillor Val Armstrong, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: “It’s great to see Vivo’s Green team getting involved with the community and helping to keep the borough clean and tidy.

“The team is already working very hard in the Chester, Winsford, Northwich, Ellesmere Port and Neston areas and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops in the future.”
