13 September 2016

Exciting Eid celebrations will be taking place in Ellesmere Port this weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Eid ul Adha is known as the Festival of Sacrifice and is celebrated by Muslims across Cheshire and the whole world.

The free festival takes place at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall this Sunday (18 September) from 1pm to 4pm. It will include delicious food, children's activities, information stalls and exhibitions.

There is also an opportunity to buy Islamic clothes, herbal remedies and art, and have henna applied.

Supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the event is organised by The Eid Team which consists of West Cheshire Multi Cultural Women's Group and members of the local Muslim community.

Councillor Paul Donovan, Cabinet Member for Democracy and Workforce, whose portfolio includes equality and diversity, said: "The Council is delighted to be able to support this event as part of its commitment to supporting and celebrating the diversity of its local community. I’m sure everyone will have a great time." A spokesman for the Eid Team said: "The theme this year is mercy and compassion. We are looking forward to celebrating this wonderful festival with family, friends and the wider community. So come along and enjoy the atmosphere. You are all welcome."
