Drop-in for Chester Northgate

27 October 2016

Starting in November, there is an opportunity to find out the latest news from the Chester Northgate project at monthly drop in days.

Visit the Town Hall, Palatine Room on Thursday 3 November, between 4pm – 7pm to view the plans and ask any questions.

Planning permission has been granted to develop the Northgate area of the city centre for a retail-led, mixed-use development.

The £300 million Chester Northgate scheme is set to deliver around 500,000 sqft of new retail, restaurant and leisure facilities over two phases of construction.

The first Phase is scheduled to start in autumn 2017. Picturehouse will be the operators of a six-screen cinema providing more than 715 seats, on the upper levels of the scheme, with a ground-level foyer and café bar opening onto the new Market Square and Hunter Street.

Chester Library will be moving into the new Storyhouse cultural centre in the New Year and their building will be converted into restaurants and a gateway into the Market square.

A new market hall will replace the current Chester Market and a new, 167-bedroom, 4-star hotel and conference centre will be built as a replacement for the existing Crowne Plaza hotel.

Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member, Economic Development and Infrastructure said: “The new drop-in sessions are just one way to follow this exciting development. The website chesternorthgate.com includes the plans and artist impressions. Important updates are also available through a new newsletter that can be subscribed to online.

“The Northgate team are currently working on the specifications for the new Market and are seeking views at the drop-in and also through a survey next month.”  The next drop-in sessions will be Tuesday 6 December and Thursday 12 January.
