Help shape the future of Weaver Square
12 July 2016Manchester-based architects Fletcher Rae has been selected to establish a new vision and masterplan for the Weaver Square Shopping Centre area in Northwich.
Weaver Square is a key local regeneration area and the proposals will add value and complement the £129m of investment already secured for the town.
The masterplan area includes the Weaver Square Shopping Centre, the police and bus stations, both indoor and outdoor markets, the information centre and Victoria Club Car Park.
One element being explored is the possibility of including a combined public services hub within the proposals to improve service delivery across Northwich.
The first stage is an optioning consultation which is due to begin next week with members of the public invited to share their views on the shopping centre and its wider role in the town.
This will take the form of a number of workshops with local groups and an online survey which can be viewed via a dedicated Weaver Square Masterplan Facebook page.
Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, said: "This is a real blank sheet of paper and in this early phase we're looking for the views of local people on what will create vitality around Weaver Square.
"The town currently loses a lot of spend to bigger locations but Weaver Square, along with the new Barons Quay development, provides us with a unique opportunity to really boost Northwich and draw people in. We're open to all suggestions and would encourage everyone to get involved and have their say."
This stage of consultation closes on Monday 25 July and you can have your say by visiting the Weaver Square Masterplan Facebook page and filling out the survey or by writing to FREEPOST: YOUR SAY CONSULTATION.
PSP Cheshire West and Cheshire LLP, which is a partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council and Public Sector PLC, are managing the master planning process on behalf of the council. Projects and initiatives developed and progressed by Public Sector Plc on behalf of local authorities aim to maximise both the return to the council and community benefit.
