Creating a welcoming space for autistic adults

16 July 2020

West Cheshire Autism Hub, which recently held its virtual launch, will create a welcoming space for autistic adults like Gus Cairns to visit.

While the Autism Hub will eventually be based at The Bluecoat in Chester, it has had to launch virtually for the time being because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council, the likes of Vivo Care Choices, NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are all behind the project.

Autistic people will be able to visit the Autism Hub and access a range of different services, such as post-diagnostic support, supported volunteering and internship opportunities, social and community group activities and much more.

Gus, along with a number of other autistic adults, have been at the forefront of planning the Autism Hub, helping develop the branding and shape how the service will look once it's able to open at The Bluecoat.

He said: "I'm very proud to be part of the West Cheshire Autism Hub. I can't wait to see it open and being used for the good of autistic adults.

"Good luck to all who use it. I will definitely use it when it can be safely opened after lockdown."

Autistic adults will be on the Autism Hub Board as a key aim is for those who use the service to be at the heart of everything it does.

You can interact with the Autism Hub on social media. The Autism Hub ebulletin is also a great way for partners and those interested in accessing the services to find out the latest news.  If you have any questions about the Autism Hub or the services available, please email: karen.mcguinness@westcheshireautismhub.co.uk.
