Love your street and be a street care reporter

3 June 2016

Cheshire West and Chester Council is urging residents to support its Street Care Pledge by becoming Street Care Reporters and reporting environmental issues in their neighbourhoods.

The Council’s Street Care Pledge sets out a shared commitment with local residents to maintain clean and attractive streets.

The Council has set-up a website for residents, and all would-be Street Care Reporters, which aims to make reporting problems easier and provide useful information about the range of services the Council provides in communities across the borough.  The address of the website is www.westcheshireyourstreets.co.uk

Also available is the SMYLE app (which stands for Supporting MY Local Environment) for reporting fly-tipping, litter, graffiti or dog fouling.  It is available for all smartphones from the Apple or Play Store and has recently been introduced for Windows mobiles too.

The app is free to download and allows users to take a photo of the issue they are reporting to give as much information as possible to help solve the problem quickly.

Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Being a Street Care Reporter has never been easier – we have introduced a number of ways of keeping in touch with us. Our Street Care Pledge is all about encouraging communities to own, love and improve their streets.

“Reporting problems is one aspect of the Street Care Pledge but we can all work together to be in touch with the needs of our communities and to think creatively about how to make our streets smarter, safer, healthier and sustainable for everyone who uses them.

“This initiative is all about getting people involved in keeping their areas looking beautiful. When this happens there is a real sense of pride in where they live - it’s so great to see the difference is makes to an area when people support our Street Care Pledge and take pride in what’s outside their front door.”
