18 August 2016

Sixth formers in West Cheshire are celebrating A-level success today (Thursday 18 August).
A total of 2,000 students from 15 schools, academies and colleges across West Cheshire sat the examinations.

Pupils have returned an overall pass rate of 97 percent compared with 98 percent nationally.

At the highest A* grade the West Cheshire results were seven percent of all awards, compared to the national figure of eight percent.

And 24 percent of students gained a higher grade A* - A pass compared to 26 percent nationally.

Councillor Nicole Meardon, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “We applaud the well-deserved achievements of students and the hard working teaching staff who have supported them throughout their learning.

“As always, the results from schools across Cheshire West and Chester have not disappointed – we are very proud of all our students and hope that these results will open many doors and stand them in good stead for the future.

“We do recognise, however, that this may not be a time of celebration for everyone. We are here to offer support and guidance for those students whose results may not be all they had hoped for.”
