Cheshire West and Chester Council stands ready to welcome Ukrainian refugees
4 March 2022Cheshire West and Chester is ready to play its part in providing safety and shelter for people fleeing Ukraine.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said:
“I continue to be shocked and saddened by the events unfolding in Ukraine. We have a proud history of welcoming refugees and asylum seekers and last year the Council passed a motion with all parties agreeing that the borough should continue to be a place of sanctuary for anyone escaping violence, persecution and hatred.
"We look forward to hearing what plans the Government intends to put in place to support the people of Ukraine and stand ready to help. We are already in the process of resettling vulnerable Afghan families and will continue our caring approach to anyone who is forced to flee their country.”
