Tudor music and tales comes to Chester for Winter Revels Christmas concert

29 November 2016

One of the country’s leading early music ensembles will be returning to the Grosvenor Museum on Thursday 8 December for a musical celebration of the winter season.

Piva will be playing music of the 16th century combined with winter tales in an evening concert which will help ease you into the Christmas spirit.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing said: “The Winter Revels was the name given to the fun and games played over the twelve days of Christmas during Tudor times, whether you were in the highest court of the land or the lowliest village dwelling.

“The concert will bring the sounds and festivities of Tudor England to life with a multitude of period instruments played by a remarkable music group.

“This promises to be a wonderful evening’s entertainment of inspirational music making, set within the Grosvenor Museum’s beautiful Lecture Theatre.” Piva were founded in 2002 and have gained a reputation for their lively performances and entertaining shows, which they play throughout the UK and Europe. The members of Piva have diverse musical backgrounds in renaissance, jazz, classical, baroque, folk and roots music. They bring all of these diverse musical influences together and fuse them with their knowledge of renaissance music and instruments, to create early music with attitude.

Tickets for the concert are available through the West Cheshire Museums website www.westcheshiremuseums.co.uk or can be bought on the door on the night. Tickets cost £8, which includes a glass of wine. The concert runs from 7.30pm-9.30pm.
