Council launches improved cross-city Park and Ride service

Cheshire West and Chester Council is launching a new improved cross-city Park and Ride service for Chester later this month.

Passengers will see a change from 27 June when Park and Ride services will be re-routed to operate cross-city and offer a choice of stops in addition to the city centre.  The changes coincide with the start of public realm improvements in Frodsham Street to create a new gateway to the city.

The new contract, with partners Stagecoach, will use a fleet of 12 new buses with features including climate control; free 4G wi-fi; premium quality seats, designed for superior passenger comfort and the latest enviro clean engine technology.  The new buses will enter service early in July.

The ‘air chill’ climate control is capable of maintaining a comfortable environment for passengers and driver and is more environmentally friendly than air conditioning.

Free USB charging and ‘next stop’ announcements will also be available.

CCTV (capable of providing high quality images) will be used covering the interior, exterior and entrance area of the vehicle for customer safety and security.

Two new routes - PR1 (the blue route - linking the Wrexham Road site with the Upton [Zoo] site) and PR2 (the green route - linking the Boughton Heath site with the Sealand Road site) - will operate across the city with a greater choice of stops for customers.

There will be a fixed service frequency of 12 minutes across all sites throughout the day from Monday to Saturday (inclusive) and a frequency of 15 minutes on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Councillor Brian Clarke said: “The new service benefits both passengers and the environment.

“Whatever you are planning to do in the city, using one of our Park and Ride services means a stress free visit without the hassle of traffic or parking in the city centre.  Information about the new services and all the available stops can be found on the council website or at any of our Park and Ride sites.

“The new service will help ease traffic congestion in the city and in the future flexible ticketing options, including mobile phone ticketing, could attract even more customers.”
