West Cheshire school children to join Lord Mayor in Queen's birthday celebrations

24 May 2016

Children from across west Cheshire will join the Lord Mayor of Chester to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday on Saturday, 11 June.

The chosen children will represent their schools in full uniform at the event, which starts at 3pm.

Youngsters will process through the streets of Chester waving flags from the 53 countries which make up The Queen’s Commonwealth and will be led by the Queen’s giant and the Sheriff of Chester.

The parade will start at the Town Hall Square and make its way along St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street and Northgate Street, arriving back at Town Hall Square at 3.30pm.

The children will then be led by the Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Angela Claydon, into Chester Cathedral so that they can participate in the Diocese of Chester’s service, led by the Bishop of Chester, to commemorate the Queen’s birthday.

Councillor Claydon said: “This should be a wonderful event, involving all the schools, to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.
“I hope everyone will join us in the cathedral.”

Each child will be presented with a special commemorative certificate by the Lord Mayor and Sherriff of Chester to mark their involvement in the event.

The Lord Mayor is inviting residents and visitors to support the children while they process around the streets of Chester.
