Consultation opens on new Health Improvement Strategy for Cheshire West and Chester

10 January 2018

Cheshire West and Chester Council is inviting people to share their views on a new Health Improvement Strategy for 2018-2022. The consultation for the strategy is running from 2 January until 27 March. The strategy is a plan for how a range of health, care, voluntary sector and other organisations will work together to improve health and wellbeing in the borough. The strategy involves five key areas:
  • Eat Well, Be Active
  • Tobacco control (smoking)
  • Alcohol harm reduction
  • Drug misuse
  • Sexual health and wellbeing
The strategy has some common themes, for example preventing illness by enabling people to make healthy choices, and a focus on reducing differences in health that exist across communities.

Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, Councillor Louise Gittins, said:
“Each key area has been developed with input from different borough-wide partnership groups and focuses on specific goals, priorities and challenges. We want to prevent ill health in the borough and we want our residents to thrive and live in healthy and vibrant communities. I would really encourage local people and organisations to let us know their views on our Health Improvement Strategy so we can work together to help improve our borough for the better.”  Director of Public Health at Cheshire West and Chester Council, Ian Ashworth adds:
“This strategy looks at supporting residents in the borough to live as healthy a life as possible.  It is important for residents to be able to make positive changes now to their health and wellbeing that will help prevent ill health in the future.  We want to hear from local people and organisations and this consultation is a great opportunity for you to let us know what you think about our prevention plans.”

Details about the consultation can be found at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/healthimprovement You will be able to view a copy of the strategy and an online questionnaire.  There will also be a list of other options for giving feedback and information about two meetings where people can offer their views in person.
