Experimental traffic order: Chester - Upper Northgate Street (One-way traffic and bus lane)

Experimental traffic order

Notice is hereby given that on the 5th October 2017 Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council made the above Traffic Regulation Order in accordance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will come into force on 20th October 2017.

The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from travelling in any direction other than northbound on the following length of road (including the bus lane) on all days:
  • Upper Northgate Street, Chester :- Between its junctions with George Street and Delamere Street

The effect of the Order will also be to prohibit any vehicle other than buses, taxis, solo motor cycles, pedal cycles or authorised vehicles to be in the bus lane or to turn right from Upper Northgate Street into Delamere Street on all days.

Full details are contained in the Order which may be examined at Council Highways Office, Guilden Sutton Depot, Guilden Sutton Lane, Guilden Sutton, Chester CH3 7EX and at the Council Offices, Ground Floor Reception, The Forum, Chester between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers, or that any of the relevant requirements has not been complied with in relation to the Order, that person may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order is made, make an application for the purpose to the High Court.

The experimental Order will be in force for a maximum period of 18 months, during which time the Council will consider whether to make a permanent Order. If any person  wishes to object to the provisions of the experimental Order continuing in force indefinitely, such person may do so in writing, stating the grounds on which it is made, to the undersigned within a period of six months:

(i)    beginning with the day on which the experimental Order came into force; or

(ii)    if that Order is varied by another Order or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification came into force.
