Council salutes Armed Forces community

17 June 2022

Cheshire West and Chester Council will be championing the men, women and families who make up the Armed Forces community throughout Armed Forces Week, next week, (20-26 June).

The Armed Forces Day flag will be flown throughout the week outside the HQ building and the Town Hall in Chester, Wyvern House in Winsford, Civic Way in Ellesmere Port and Brio’s Memorial Court Leisure Centre in Northwich.

The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor John Leather, will raise the Armed Forces Day flag outside Chester Town Hall on the morning of Monday 20 June with military personnel from 4 MERCIAN , the Queens Own Yeomanry Regiment (Fox Barracks, Chester), 75 Engineer Regiment, RAF Woodvale, Army Careers Centre and local veteran organisations.

Councillor Sam Naylor, the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said:

“The annual event is a chance for the whole country to celebrate the work of service personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets and their families and friends.

“Cheshire West and Chester Council recognises and admires the commitment and sacrifices that our Armed Forces make. This important week allows all of us recognise their service to the Nation.”

Serving military personnel including regulars, reservists, Cadet Force Adult volunteers and veterans - together with their immediate families – will also be eligible to take advantage of free Park & Ride travel in Chester throughout the week.

To qualify for the special offers serving personnel will be asked to show their military identity card and all other eligible individuals will be asked to show either their Defence Privilege Card or HM Armed Forces Veterans Card.

Brio Leisure also provides current and ex-members of the military, along with those who are medically discharged, the opportunity to receive a discounted or free membership (subject to terms and conditions).  Ex-members of the Armed Forces can benefit from Brio Leisure’s discounted WorkFit Membership, and this is available to those who have left the forces in the last five years.
