Views invited on oil and gas exploration planning guidance

17 October 2016

Cheshire West and Chester Council is inviting views on a new guidance document to support the planning process for oil and gas exploration.

A consultation into the draft ‘Oil and Gas Exploration, Production and Distribution Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)’ will run until 18 November.

Said Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure: “This document is in addition to our existing Local Plan policies and will provide further detail and guidance for planning applicants and decision makers.

“It explains what evidence and information the Council will require and how the Council will assess and deal with planning applications relating to onshore oil and gas development.

“These applications may include proposals that use the method of fracturing rock or ‘fracking’ to extract shale gas.  All comments received will be fully considered by the Council to establish if any amendments are required. The final document will then be presented to the Council for adoption.” Views can be submitted online, by email or by post, details of how to respond can be found on the Council’s website: www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/localplan
